Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gasmotin SR (UI05MSP015CT) is a sustained-release formulation of mosapride citrate, a selective 5-HT4 receptor agonist developed by Korea United Pharm. Inc. for the treatment of functional dyspepsia. It acts by stimulating 5-HT4 receptors on enteric cholinergic neurons, which promotes the release of acetylcholine and subsequently enhances gastric emptying and gastrointestinal motility. Unlike earlier prokinetic agents such as cisapride, mosapride exhibits high selectivity for the 5-HT4 receptor and lacks significant affinity for 5-HT3 or D2 receptors, thereby minimizing the risk of extrapyramidal side effects and cardiac arrhythmias (e.g., QT prolongation). The Gasmotin SR formulation is designed for once-daily oral administration, offering improved patient convenience and adherence compared to the standard thrice-daily dosing of immediate-release mosapride. It has been evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials to establish its efficacy and safety profile in patients with functional dyspepsia.
