Overview

The GAST-peptide vaccine is a synthetic peptide antigen vaccine developed by Pepscan Systems BV, currently in the pipeline for the treatment of pancreatic cancer. Utilizing Pepscan's proprietary peptide technology, the vaccine is designed to elicit a targeted immune response against gastrin (GAST), a peptide hormone that functions as a growth factor in several gastrointestinal cancers. By inducing the production of neutralizing antibodies, the vaccine aims to block gastrin from binding to its receptors, such as the cholecystokinin B receptor (CCKBR), thereby inhibiting the autocrine and paracrine growth-stimulatory loops that drive tumor progression in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. This therapeutic vaccine approach seeks to provide a more specific and less toxic alternative or adjunct to conventional chemotherapy.
