Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gastrodin benzyl alcohol ester is a small molecule derivative of gastrodin, the primary bioactive constituent of the traditional Chinese medicinal herb *Gastrodia elata* Blume. Developed by Beijing Collab Pharmaceutical Development Co., Ltd., it is currently being investigated for the treatment of mild to moderate vascular dementia. As a modified version of gastrodin, this ester derivative is designed to enhance pharmacological activity and potentially improve blood-brain barrier penetration. Its mechanism of action involves neuroprotection through the modulation of GABAergic neurotransmission, reduction of oxidative stress, and inhibition of neuroinflammatory processes, which collectively aim to improve cognitive function and slow the progression of dementia symptoms.
