Overview
Gastroraft is an oral anti-reflux medication developed by Rowez Life Sciences, primarily indicated for the symptomatic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heartburn, and acid indigestion. It utilizes a raft-forming mechanism where sodium alginate reacts with gastric acid to create a physical barrier (a pH-neutral alginate gel) that floats on top of the stomach contents. This barrier prevents the reflux of acid and pepsin into the esophagus. The formulation typically includes sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate, which react with stomach acid to produce carbon dioxide (providing buoyancy to the raft) and calcium ions (which strengthen the gel structure through cross-linking).
