Akrogat-P is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic suspension containing gatifloxacin (0.3% w/v), a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and prednisolone (1% w/v), a synthetic corticosteroid anti-inflammatory agent. Developed by Akrovis Pharmaceuticals, it is indicated for the treatment of bacterial eye infections (such as bacterial conjunctivitis, keratitis, and blepharitis) accompanied by inflammation, as well as for the management of post-operative ocular inflammation and pain where a risk of bacterial infection exists. Gatifloxacin acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, thereby preventing bacterial DNA replication and transcription. Prednisolone acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, suppressing the inflammatory response by inhibiting the synthesis of inflammatory mediators.
