Gaviscon Original Liquid

Gaviscon Original Liquid is an over-the-counter antacid and reflux suppressant used for the symptomatic relief of heartburn and acid indigestion. It contains a combination of three active ingredients: sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, and calcium carbonate. The medication employs a dual-action mechanism of action. Upon contact with gastric acid, the sodium alginate forms a thick, physical barrier known as an alginate raft that floats on top of the stomach contents, physically preventing the reflux of acid into the esophagus. Simultaneously, the calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate act as chemical antacids to neutralize excess stomach acid. This localized action provides relief for up to four hours without entering the bloodstream. The product is sugar-free, gluten-free, and is currently marketed by Haleon (formerly part of GlaxoSmithKline).
