Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GB222 is a humanized monoclonal antibody developed by Genor Biopharma as a biosimilar candidate for bevacizumab (Avastin). It specifically targets and neutralizes vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), thereby preventing its binding to VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2 receptors on endothelial cells. This action inhibits the signaling pathways responsible for angiogenesis, which is critical for tumor growth and metastasis. GB222 has been investigated in Phase 1 clinical trials, including pharmacokinetic similarity studies in healthy volunteers and safety assessments in patients with advanced solid tumors. As a biosimilar, its development was aimed at providing a therapeutic alternative for indications such as metastatic colorectal cancer and non-small cell lung cancer, although the program has been deprioritized by the developer in favor of other pipeline assets.
