GBE761 is a standardized extract of *Ginkgo biloba* being developed by the University of Brasilia as an otoprotective agent. It is primarily indicated for the prevention of cisplatin-induced ototoxicity and hearing loss in patients undergoing chemotherapy. The extract's mechanism of action is centered on its potent antioxidant properties and its ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby protecting the outer hair cells of the cochlea from oxidative damage. Clinical research, including a Phase 2 study, has utilized distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) testing to evaluate its efficacy, showing that GBE761 can be administered at a dose of 240 mg/day without interfering with the antitumor activity of cisplatin.
