Overview

A monovalent glycoconjugate vaccine candidate designed to prevent infections caused by Group B Streptococcus (GBS) serotype Ia. It consists of the capsular polysaccharide of GBS serotype Ia covalently linked to the CRM197 carrier protein. CRM197 is a non-toxic mutant of diphtheria toxin that enhances the immunogenicity of the polysaccharide by inducing a T-cell dependent immune response. Originally developed by Novartis and later part of the GSK pipeline following the acquisition of Novartis's vaccine division, this vaccine was evaluated in early-phase clinical trials to assess safety and the persistence of functional antibodies in healthy adults, particularly women of childbearing age, to potentially prevent neonatal GBS disease through maternal immunization.
