GBS6 (PF-06760805) is a hexavalent capsular polysaccharide conjugate vaccine candidate developed by Pfizer for the prevention of invasive Group B Streptococcus (GBS) disease in neonates and young infants through maternal immunization. The vaccine targets the six most common GBS serotypes (Ia, Ib, II, III, IV, and V), which collectively account for approximately 98% of invasive GBS disease cases globally. Each of the six polysaccharides is individually conjugated to a CRM197 carrier protein to enhance immunogenicity. The clinical strategy involves vaccinating pregnant women to induce high titers of serotype-specific IgG antibodies, which are then transplacentally transferred to the fetus. This provides passive immunity to the infant from birth through the first few months of life, a period of high vulnerability to GBS-related sepsis, pneumonia, and meningitis. GBS6 is currently being evaluated in the Phase 3 BEATRIX trial.
