GC022 is a bispecific autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell immunotherapy engineered to target both the B-cell antigens CD19 and CD22. It is designed for the treatment of B-cell malignancies such as relapsed or refractory B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) and B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The therapy involves collecting a patient's own T-cells and genetically modifying them to express two distinct CARs that recognize both the CD19 and CD22 antigens on malignant B-cells. This dual targeting aims to reduce relapse due to antigen escape—a common resistance mechanism in single-targeted CAR-T therapies. The drug was originally developed by Gracell Biotechnology; as of February 2024, Gracell Biotechnology has been acquired by AstraZeneca[3][5]. Clinical development has reached phase 2 trials in China for hematologic neoplasms including refractory or recurrent B-cell lymphoma[2][3][5].
