GC4006A is an mRNA-based vaccine candidate developed by GC Biopharma for the prevention of COVID-19. It utilizes the company's proprietary mRNA-lipid nanoparticle (LNP) platform to deliver genetic instructions for the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. The development of GC4006A is a central component of the South Korean government's "mRNA Vaccine Development Support Project for Pandemic Preparedness," led by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA). This initiative aims to localize mRNA vaccine production capabilities in South Korea by 2028 to ensure rapid response to future pandemics. As of April 2025, GC Biopharma has submitted an Investigational New Drug (IND) application to initiate Phase 1 clinical trials for the candidate.
