GCAP001 is a novel small-molecule combination drug candidate developed by GoodCap Pharmaceuticals to treat psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders triggered by neuroinflammation, with a primary focus on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The drug combines two distinct classes of molecules: 5-HT2A receptor agonists (specifically low-dose psilocybin) and synergistic potentiators that act as TRP receptor agonists. This combination is designed to significantly reduce key inflammatory biomarkers associated with the gut-brain axis, including pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α. Additionally, GCAP001 is intended to inhibit COX-2 and reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby addressing both gastrointestinal inflammation and associated depressive symptoms.
