Overview

GCAR1 is a second-generation chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy targeting glycoprotein non-metastatic B (GPNMB), a protein found on cancer cells. It is an autologous cell therapy product containing a mixture of the patient's own lymphocytes that have been genetically modified using a lentiviral vector to express a CAR that specifically targets GPNMB-expressing cancer cells. Developed by researchers at the University of Calgary, GCAR1 has shown promise in preclinical models and has been used experimentally to treat alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS).
