Overview

GCC4001 + obinutuzumab is a combination therapy consisting of allogeneic cord blood-derived naive natural killer (NK) cells (GCC4001, also known as AB-101) and the humanized glycoengineered type II anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody obinutuzumab. Developed by GC Cell (a subsidiary of GC Biopharma) and its partner Artiva Biotherapeutics, this therapeutic approach is designed to treat B-cell mediated autoimmune diseases, primarily systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The mechanism of action relies on the synergistic effect of the NK cells and the antibody; obinutuzumab binds to CD20-positive B cells, while the allogeneic NK cells provide a potent effector population to enhance antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), leading to more efficient depletion of pathogenic B cells compared to antibody monotherapy. The program has received Investigational New Drug (IND) clearance from the US FDA for clinical evaluation in SLE.
