Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GCGR siRNA LNP is a preclinical therapeutic platform consisting of a small interfering RNA (siRNA) targeting the glucagon receptor (GCGR) encapsulated within lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). This agent is designed to selectively downregulate GCGR expression in the liver, thereby inhibiting glucagon-mediated glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis. In preclinical models of type 2 diabetes and obesity, hepatic knockdown of GCGR using this platform has been shown to significantly reduce blood glucose levels, improve oral glucose tolerance, and normalize glucose homeostasis. The platform has been utilized in research by organizations such as Merck Research Laboratories and academic institutions to investigate the therapeutic potential of targeting glucagon signaling.
