GCP-002 (also known as EP-HMRG) is an activatable fluorescent diagnostic probe developed by GORYO Chemical for the real-time detection of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) during endoscopic procedures. The probe consists of a hydroxymethyl rhodamine green (HMRG) fluorophore conjugated to a dipeptide (Glutamic acid-Proline) that is specifically recognized and cleaved by dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV), an enzyme frequently overexpressed on the surface of esophageal cancer cells. In its intact state, GCP-002 is non-fluorescent; however, upon enzymatic cleavage by DPP-IV, it releases the highly fluorescent HMRG, allowing for high-contrast visualization of malignant lesions. It is being evaluated for oral administration to assist in identifying early-stage tumors that might be missed by conventional white-light imaging.
