Overview

Gd-DO3A is a gadolinium(III)-based magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agent. It functions by enhancing the signal in MR images, primarily by shortening the T1 relaxation time of water protons in tissues. In the provided context, it was used as a control agent in a study involving B16 melanoma tumor xenografts, where its washout kinetics were compared to a thiol-reactive derivative, Gd-DO3A-PDP. Unlike Gd-DO3A-PDP, Gd-DO3A itself does not possess specific targeting capabilities for exofacial protein thiols (EPTs) and acts as a more general extracellular contrast agent.
