Overview

**Gd-DTPA-g-R826** is an experimental, low-molecular-weight, phosphatidylserine-targeted gadolinium MRI contrast agent. It consists of gadolinium chelated by DTPA and covalently linked through a spacer to the phage-display-derived hexapeptide R826, with sequence Leu-Ile-Lys-Lys-Pro-Phe. The agent binds phosphatidylserine exposed on the outer membrane leaflet of apoptotic cells, enabling T1-weighted MRI detection of apoptosis. It was evaluated in vitro and in mouse models of liver apoptosis and ApoE-deficient atherosclerosis as an imaging probe for apoptotic cells within atherosclerotic plaques; it has not been established as a marketed diagnostic product.
