Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GDC-229 is an investigational vaginal gel formulation containing 0.75% metronidazole, developed by Balmoral Medical for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis. Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole antimicrobial that acts by inhibiting nucleic acid synthesis in anaerobic bacteria, which are the primary pathogens involved in bacterial vaginosis. GDC-229 was evaluated in a Phase 3 clinical trial (NCT03091777) to demonstrate therapeutic equivalence to the FDA-approved reference metronidazole 0.75% vaginal gel and superiority over placebo in female patients.
