GDD3898 is a clinical-stage, topical small-molecule stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1) inhibitor being developed by Lipidio Pharmaceuticals for dermatologic and metabolic diseases associated with excess body fat, including acne, sebaceous hyperplasia, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), obesity, Prader–Willi syndrome, antipsychotic-induced weight gain, and presumed nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).[1][5][6][11][12][13] Designed as a novel chemical entity applied as a 1.75% topical gel, GDD3898 targets sebum-producing skin cells to inhibit their proliferation and reduce sebum production, and more broadly increases energy expenditure and fat burning without acting as an appetite suppressant.[3][9][11][12] The program has progressed to Phase 2 development in NASH and acne, with earlier-stage or exploratory development in obesity, sebaceous hyperplasia, Prader–Willi syndrome, antipsychotic-induced weight gain, and NAFLD, supported by human safety data in more than 100 participants.[1][5][7][11][12][13]
