Juvenescence is developing a monoclonal antibody targeting growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) for the treatment of muscle wasting and cachexia. GDF-15 is a circulating protein that regulates energy balance and weight control through the GFRAL-RET signaling pathway in the brain. Elevated GDF-15 levels are associated with cachexia, a syndrome characterized by severe weight loss, muscle atrophy, and reduced survival in patients with chronic diseases such as cancer. The monoclonal antibody works by neutralizing circulating GDF-15, thereby blocking its interaction with the GFRAL receptor and preventing downstream signaling that leads to appetite suppression and muscle wasting. This therapeutic approach is currently in the preclinical stage of development as part of Juvenescence's pipeline focused on age-related conditions and metabolic disorders.
