GEAR-NK is a gene-edited, autologous natural killer (NK) cell therapy platform designed to enhance the efficacy of combination cancer treatments, particularly for blood cancers. By editing NK cells to be resistant to monoclonal antibody (mAb) therapies, GEAR-NK allows these immune cells to be co-administered with targeted mAbs (such as anti-CD38), overcoming the problem of NK cell fratricide and neutralization caused by shared antigen expression with malignant cells. The platform aims to optimize immune cell function and is in preclinical development for hematologic malignancies and potentially other cancers. GEAR-NK was developed through a partnership between COEPTIS, Inc. (and its majority-owned subsidiary GEAR Therapeutics) and originating technology from VyGen-Bio, with academic research roots at the Karolinska Institutet. The first-in-human studies are planned to target multiple myeloma and other cancers, with future potential for use in combination with hematopoietic stem cell therapies to improve bone marrow transplant outcomes[1][3][5][7][9].
