gefitinib + radiotherapy

Gefitinib is an orally active, selective epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor. It blocks the ATP-binding site of the EGFR tyrosine kinase domain, thereby inhibiting downstream signaling pathways involved in cell proliferation and survival. Gefitinib is primarily indicated for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with activating EGFR mutations. When combined with radiotherapy, gefitinib has demonstrated improved objective response rates and survival outcomes in patients with locally advanced NSCLC who are unfit for surgery or concurrent chemoradiotherapy[1][4][5]. The combination has also shown benefit in elderly patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) who are not candidates for platinum-based chemotherapy[6]. Gefitinib was developed by AstraZeneca.
