Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gegen Decoction (GGD), also known as Gegen Tang or Puerariae Decoction, is a traditional Chinese medicine formula composed of Ge Gen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Ma Huang, Gui Zhi, Sheng Jiang, Zhi Gan Cao, Shao Yao, and Da Zao. It has been historically used to relieve superficies syndrome by means of diaphoresis and to treat diarrhea. Modern research indicates its potential in treating primary dysmenorrhea by regulating pituitary hypothalamic ovarian hormones and interfering with metabolic changes. Additionally, it is being investigated for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), where it has shown to alleviate symptoms by improving estrous cycles, restoring ovarian morphology, regulating hormone levels, ameliorating glucose and lipid metabolism disorders, and maintaining cholesterol homeostasis.
