Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The Gel Vehicle is an inactive topical formulation developed by MediWound Ltd to serve as the placebo control in clinical trials for EscharEx, a bromelain-based bioactive enzymatic debridement agent. It is designed to match the physical characteristics and application method of the active therapy without containing the proteolytic enzymes. In clinical studies, it provides a baseline for evaluating the efficacy and safety of enzymatic debridement in treating hard-to-heal wounds, such as venous leg ulcers (VLUs), diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), and traumatic or post-operative wounds. By serving as a comparator, the gel vehicle allows researchers to isolate the therapeutic effects of the active bromelain-based concentrate on non-viable tissue removal and wound bed preparation.
