GelART is a biomaterial composed of gelatin hydrogel particles developed by Shibuya Kogyo in collaboration with Professor Yasuhiko Tabata. It is specifically designed to serve as a scaffold for cell transplantation in regenerative medicine. The hydrogel particles provide a supportive microenvironment that enhances the engraftment, retention, and viability of transplanted cells, thereby improving the overall therapeutic efficacy of the treatment. GelART is utilized as a critical component in iHeart Japan's IHJ-301, an iPSC-derived cardiomyocyte patch for treating dilated cardiomyopathy. The product has been recognized by Japan's Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) for its suitability as a raw material in regenerative medicine products.
