Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gelatamp is a sterile, resorbable hemostatic gelatin sponge impregnated with 5% colloidal silver, specifically designed for dental surgical applications. It is primarily used for the treatment of extraction sockets and other surgical wounds in the oral cavity to promote hemostasis and prevent post-operative infections. The gelatin matrix provides a large surface area that facilitates the rapid stabilization of the blood coagulum and provides a scaffold for tissue regeneration. Simultaneously, the colloidal silver acts as a local depot, releasing silver ions that exert a broad-spectrum antimicrobial effect against bacteria commonly found in the oral cavity, thereby reducing the risk of alveolar osteitis (dry socket). The sponge is completely resorbed by the body within 4 to 6 weeks. It is manufactured by Coltene under the ROEKO brand.
