Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gelafundin is a branded intravenous colloidal plasma-volume replacement solution whose principal colloid is **gelatin polysuccinate**, also called succinylated or modified fluid gelatin. Its high-molecular-weight gelatin derivative increases colloid osmotic pressure and transiently expands intravascular plasma volume; it has no specific molecular receptor target. Gelafundin ISO is supplied as a 40 mg/mL balanced-electrolyte infusion solution and is indicated for relative or absolute hypovolemia and shock. In the Universiti Sains Malaysia ICU study, Gelafundin was investigated as the diluent for intravenous insulin infusion to assess glycemic control in patients with hyperglycemia; Gelafundin itself is not an antihyperglycemic agent.
