Gelatin sponge-loaded apoptotic vesicle complex (Kuaikang®) is an experimental regenerative therapy developed by the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University for the treatment of alveolar bone defects, particularly those following mandibular third molar extraction. The therapy utilizes apoptotic vesicles (apoVs)—extracellular vesicles released during programmed cell death—which are loaded onto a Kuaikang® brand gelatin sponge scaffold. These vesicles are thought to promote functional alveolar bone regeneration by modulating the local immune environment and stimulating the osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells. The gelatin sponge serves as a biocompatible, biodegradable carrier that maintains the vesicles at the site of the defect to facilitate repair.
