Gelatin tannate is an orally administered, non-absorbed gelatin-tannic acid complex used as an intestinal mucosal barrier protector for symptomatic management of acute diarrhea, including diarrhea associated with acute gastroenteritis. It acts locally in the gastrointestinal tract by forming a protective film over the intestinal mucosa, helping restore barrier function rather than acting through a defined systemic pharmacological target. Gelatin tannate has been evaluated in randomized pediatric gastroenteritis studies, including the Phase 3 INDIGO trial sponsored by Ferrer.
