Gelclair

Gelclair is a concentrated oral gel classified as a medical device used for the management of oral mucositis and other painful oral lesions, particularly those induced by chemotherapy or radiotherapy. It is composed of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid), and glycyrrhetinic acid. The gel functions by adhering to the oral mucosa and forming a protective physical barrier that coats exposed nerve endings, hydrates tissues, and provides symptomatic relief from pain. It does not contain traditional pharmacologically active ingredients and acts through mechanical protection rather than biological receptor interaction, although glycyrrhetinic acid is noted for providing anti-inflammatory effects as a cyclooxygenase inhibitor.
