Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gelesis200 (GS-200) is an investigational, orally administered, non-systemic superabsorbent hydrogel developed by Gelesis for the treatment of overweight and obesity, specifically in patients with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. The product consists of cross-linked polymeric particles that, when ingested with water before meals, expand in the stomach and small intestine to increase the volume and viscosity of the gastrointestinal contents. This mechanical action promotes satiety and potentially slows the absorption of glucose, thereby aiding in both weight loss and glycemic management. In the pivotal LIGHT-UP clinical trial, Gelesis200 met its primary endpoints, demonstrating significant weight loss and a favorable safety profile in adults with a BMI between 27 and 40 kg/m² and impaired glucose metabolism.
