Gelnique 3%

Gelnique 3% is a topical hydroalcoholic gel formulation of oxybutynin chloride, a muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist, developed by Antares Pharma using its proprietary transdermal delivery technology. It is indicated for the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB) with symptoms of urge urinary incontinence, urgency, and frequency. By inhibiting the M1, M2, and M3 muscarinic receptor subtypes in the detrusor muscle of the bladder, oxybutynin reduces involuntary bladder contractions and increases functional bladder capacity. The 3% formulation, delivered via a metered-dose pump, was designed to provide therapeutic efficacy with a lower volume of gel compared to the original 10% formulation, potentially improving patient adherence and minimizing skin irritation while bypassing first-pass hepatic metabolism to reduce the incidence of anticholinergic side effects like dry mouth.
