Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GeloTonsil is a gargle gel developed by Pohl-Boskamp for the treatment of inflammatory conditions in the mouth and throat, such as tonsillitis and sore throat. It contains xanthan gum and sodium hyaluronate, which together form a mucoadhesive hydrogel complex. This complex creates a physical protective film over the irritated mucous membranes, providing a barrier against further irritation and supporting the regeneration of the tissue. It is primarily used to alleviate pain and difficulty swallowing. In the European Union, it is classified as a medical device (Class IIa) because its primary mode of action is physical rather than pharmacological.
