Gelsolin siRNA is a small interfering RNA designed to silence the expression of the gelsolin (GSN) gene. Gelsolin is an actin-binding protein that plays a critical role in cell motility and migration by regulating actin filament assembly and disassembly. In oncology research, particularly in cervical carcinoma, gelsolin has been identified as a potential molecular biomarker and therapeutic target due to its overexpression in cancerous tissues and its association with increased cell migration and poor recurrence-free survival. Experimental use of gelsolin siRNA in HeLa cell lines has demonstrated a reduction in cell migration, suggesting that targeting gelsolin expression could inhibit the invasive potential of cancer cells. This agent is primarily used as a research tool to investigate the role of the actin cytoskeleton in cancer progression.
