Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GelVac H5N1 influenza vaccine is an experimental intranasal powder vaccine designed for pandemic preparedness against the H5N1 avian influenza virus. It utilizes the proprietary **GelVac** delivery platform, which is based on **GelSite**, a high-molecular-weight mucoadhesive polysaccharide extracted from the *Aloe vera* plant. The vaccine is formulated as a dry powder that, upon contact with the moist nasal mucosa, hydrates to form a gel. This gel provides a sustained release of inactivated H5N1 influenza antigens, enhancing both local mucosal immunity (nasal IgA) and systemic immune responses (HAI and neutralizing antibodies). This needle-free and shelf-stable formulation was developed to avoid the requirement for refrigeration and to simplify mass administration during a pandemic scenario.
