Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GEM-based Foam is a preclinical therapeutic candidate developed by GEM-Biosciences for the treatment of gastrointestinal and liver-related inflammatory diseases, including ulcerative colitis, proctitis, and pouchitis. The drug utilizes proprietary Gas-Entrapping Material (GEM) technology to stabilize and deliver carbon monoxide (CO) directly to the site of inflammation. Carbon monoxide acts as a signaling molecule with potent anti-inflammatory and cytoprotective properties. The formulation is designed for rectal instillation, allowing for localized delivery to the colon and rectum to minimize systemic exposure while maximizing therapeutic efficacy in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and related conditions.
