Overview

GEM-based hydrogel is a preclinical-stage therapeutic candidate developed by GEM-Biosciences, utilizing the company's proprietary Gas-Entrapping Materials (GEM) technology platform. This platform is designed to entrap and stabilize therapeutic gases, such as carbon monoxide (CO), within a material for localized delivery. The hydrogel formulation is intended for topical application to treat chronic and acute wounds, including diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, and burns. By delivering CO directly to the wound site, the treatment aims to leverage the gas's anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and pro-angiogenic properties to facilitate tissue repair and accelerate healing. The GEM technology allows for the delivery of CO at concentrations that would be difficult to achieve systemically without toxicity, providing a targeted approach to gas therapy.
