Overview

This therapeutic approach involves a combination of the chemotherapy agent gemcitabine and immunotherapy via non-myeloablative allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (NST). The procedure utilizes granulocyte colony-stimulating factor-mobilized peripheral blood stem cells (GPBSC) collected from a donor. The goal is to induce a graft-versus-tumor (GVT) effect against unresectable stage III or IV pancreatic cancer. Gemcitabine is used as a conditioning or debulking agent, followed by the infusion of donor GPBSCs to establish a chimeric immune system capable of targeting the malignancy. The non-myeloablative nature of the conditioning regimen allows for the treatment of patients who might not tolerate traditional high-dose myeloablative transplantation.
