Overview

Gemcitabine + capecitabine is a combination chemotherapy regimen primarily used in the treatment of pancreatic cancer, often referred to as "GemCap" or "CapGem". Gemcitabine is administered intravenously and acts as a nucleoside analog, interfering with DNA synthesis by being incorporated into DNA and inhibiting DNA polymerase activity. Capecitabine is an oral prodrug that is converted in vivo to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), which inhibits thymidylate synthase and disrupts both DNA and RNA synthesis. The combination works synergistically to prevent cancer cell division and proliferation. This regimen may be used as adjuvant therapy following surgery or for advanced disease[1][2][3][4][5][8].
