Overview

Gemcitabine + carboplatin or eribulin refers to a treatment regimen in which either the combination of gemcitabine and carboplatin, or the drug eribulin, is used for cancer therapy. **Gemcitabine** is a nucleoside analog that inhibits DNA synthesis by incorporating into DNA during replication, leading to cell death. It is commonly used in combination with platinum-based agents like **carboplatin**, which forms DNA crosslinks and inhibits DNA repair and replication, resulting in apoptosis of rapidly dividing tumor cells[4][7]. This combination is approved for several cancers including ovarian cancer and non-small cell lung cancer[4]. **Eribulin** is a synthetic derivative of halichondrin B from marine sponges. It acts as a microtubule dynamics inhibitor by binding to tubulin at microtubule ends, causing mitotic blockade and subsequent apoptosis[2][5][6]. Eribulin has been approved for metastatic breast cancer after prior anthracycline and taxane therapy, as well as unresectable or metastatic liposarcoma[5][6][8]. Eribulin has also been studied in various solid tumors both alone and in combination with other agents such as gemcitabine or carboplatin[1][2][3].
