Overview

Gemcitabine + paclitaxel + cisplatin is a combination chemotherapy regimen being evaluated for the treatment of refractory or recurrent hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). The regimen combines gemcitabine (a nucleoside analog that inhibits DNA synthesis), paclitaxel (a taxane that stabilizes microtubules, interfering with cell division), and cisplatin (a platinum-based agent that forms DNA cross-links). This combination, often referred to by the acronym GTP (Gemcitabine, Taxol, Platin), is being investigated by the Beijing Friendship Hospital to improve outcomes in patients who have failed standard induction therapies like the HLH-94 or HLH-2004 protocols. The regimen aims to suppress the hyper-inflammatory immune response and the proliferation of activated T cells and macrophages that characterize HLH.
