Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination therapy consisting of gemcitabine, a nucleoside metabolic inhibitor, and suramin, a non-cytotoxic agent used as a chemotherapy modulator. In preclinical models, non-cytotoxic suramin at concentrations <50 µM has been shown to potentiate the activity of multiple chemotherapeutic agents including gemcitabine. This combination has been studied in Phase I trials for previously chemotherapy-treated patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
