Overview

GemiBrad is a branded generic formulation of ivabradine, a selective and specific inhibitor of the cardiac pacemaker $I_f$ current. Marketed by Verse Lifesciences, it is primarily indicated for the symptomatic treatment of chronic stable angina pectoris and chronic heart failure in patients with a resting heart rate of at least 70-75 beats per minute. Ivabradine works by blocking the hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated (HCN) channels, specifically HCN4, in the sinoatrial node. This action reduces the spontaneous pacemaker activity, thereby lowering the heart rate without affecting myocardial contractility, ventricular repolarization, or blood pressure. By decreasing the heart rate, GemiBrad reduces myocardial oxygen demand and improves cardiac efficiency.
