GEN-003

GEN-003 is an investigational **therapeutic protein-subunit vaccine** developed by Genocea Biosciences for recurrent genital herpes caused by herpes simplex virus type 2. The vaccine contains recombinant HSV-2 glycoprotein D2 with its transmembrane region deleted and an HSV-2 infected-cell protein 4 fragment, administered with the Matrix-M2 saponin adjuvant to induce HSV-2-specific humoral and cellular immune responses. In Phase 1/2 and Phase 2 studies, it was evaluated for reducing genital HSV-2 viral shedding, lesion days, and recurrences; Genocea discontinued internal development of the program in 2017 during its strategic pivot to immuno-oncology.
