Overview
Gene-Eden-VIR is a multi-ingredient botanical dietary supplement developed by the Center for Biomarkers of Chronic Diseases (CBCD) for the management of latent viral infections. The formulation, which is also marketed under the brand name Novirin, contains five natural ingredients: quercetin, green tea extract (*Camellia sinensis*), cinnamon extract (*Cinnamomum cassia*), licorice extract (*Glycyrrhiza glabra*), and selenium. It is primarily indicated for individuals with Human Papillomavirus (HPV), Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV-1 and HSV-2), Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), and Cytomegalovirus (CMV). The supplement is proposed to function as a broad-spectrum antiviral by inhibiting viral proteases and interfering with the replication cycle of DNA and RNA viruses. While several retrospective clinical studies published by the developer suggest that Gene-Eden-VIR can reduce the frequency and duration of viral outbreaks and accelerate HPV clearance, these findings have been subject to expressions of concern regarding methodological limitations and potential conflicts of interest.
