Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gene-HBvax is a recombinant subunit vaccine developed and manufactured by Vabiotech (Company of Vaccine and Biological Production No.1) in Vietnam for the prevention of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The vaccine consists of highly purified Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) produced through recombinant DNA technology in the yeast strain *Hansenula polymorpha*. Upon administration, the HBsAg protein induces the production of specific humoral antibodies (anti-HBs), providing active immunity against all known subtypes of HBV. The formulation is adsorbed on aluminum hydroxide as an adjuvant to enhance the immune response and is administered via intramuscular injection. Gene-HBvax is a cornerstone of Vietnam's National Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), used for both neonatal prophylaxis and adult immunization.
