Gene-modified SQ-SHED is an investigational gene-modified cell therapy being developed by Kidswell Bio (formerly Gene Techno Science) and its subsidiary S-Quatre Corporation for the treatment of glioblastoma. The therapy utilizes Stem cells from Human Exfoliated Deciduous teeth (SHED), which are processed using the proprietary SQ-SHED culture method. These cells are genetically engineered to express a modified thymidine kinase (TK). In a suicide gene therapy approach, the TK-expressing cells are intended to migrate to the tumor site and convert a prodrug (typically ganciclovir) into a cytotoxic metabolite, thereby inducing targeted cell death in the glioblastoma cells. The program is currently in preclinical development in collaboration with Yamaguchi University School of Medicine.
