Overview

Geneferon is a combination pharmaceutical product primarily used in the treatment of urogenital infections, including human papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). It consists of recombinant human interferon alfa-2b, which provides antiviral, immunomodulatory, and antiproliferative effects; taurine, which acts as an antioxidant and enhances tissue repair; and benzocaine, a local anesthetic that provides symptomatic relief. The drug is typically administered via vaginal or rectal suppositories. It has been studied in Kazakhstan and Russia as part of complex therapy for HPV-associated cervical diseases, often compared or combined with other modalities like photodynamic therapy. The product is designed to stimulate local immunity while providing direct antiviral activity and symptomatic comfort.
